Revelation 2:2-4
“I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance. I know that you cannot tolerate evildoers; you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them to be false. I also know that you are enduring patiently and bearing up for the sake of my name, and that you have not grown weary. But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.
First love
Idealistic
Naive
Stimulating
Delightful
Memorable
Blind
There’s nothing quite like it
To last, it must change
Grow
Develop
Mature
That takes work

ReplyDeleteThe newborn-swaddled first love of pure love is finally cut from the swaddling clothes and is then freed to be washed and move and ‘do’. St Catherine of Sienna in ‘The Love of God’ said to an enquirer ....why do you say you love me when you do not know me....love: gritty, mature love inevitably involves more knowledge with sentiment than just sentiment. It powers through pain and can accompany grief and disappointment ....it sits contentedly silent, but not smugly or inadequately so, beyond words , with cancer, through utter despair, through disbelief....judging nothing....and supporting with a simple sigh, a strengthened hand-grip, releasing pain beyond words. He strives we mature into love that loves for loves’ sake with knowledge that is not ever used against anyone....there is faith, hope...and love....but the greatest is love.
ReplyDeleteThank you Liz for helping me ponder and murmur again today in this reflective ‘second Lent’ season as we wait for Him to come. Thank you 😃
