Isaiah 64:1-2
O that you would tear open the heavens and come down,
so that the mountains would quake at your presence—
as when fire kindles brushwood
and the fire causes water to boil—
to make your name known to your adversaries,
so that the nations might tremble at your presence!
The prophet’s wish was fulfilled
The heavens were torn open
God came to earth
And we contemplate, this Advent
what difference that makes.
And, unless we are prepared
to live in a world filled with miracles
we will continue
only to see the ordinary
while God at large
moves among us
inviting us to be awe-struck by beauty
even and especially
in all that is tired and broken
in the world.
