Consider your call

1 Corinthians 1:26-29
Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that no one might boast in the presence of God.

When our feathers are ruffled
When we want to stand on our dignity
When we want to rise up
and assert our authority
We are exhorted:
Consider your call

When we feel put down
When we've been overlooked
When we've been misjudged
and found wanting
We are exhorted:
Consider your call

When our contributions are dismissed
When we encounter narrow minds
When we long to simply take our gifts
somewhere they will be appreciated
We are exhorted:
Consider your call

God calls us for times and seasons
not of our  choosing
God calls us to serve in places
out of our comfort zones
God calls us to work with others
who are not like us
And when it all seems like too much
We are exhorted:
Consider your call
