Luke 19:45-48
Jesus Cleanses the Temple
Then he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling things there; and he said, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer’; but you have made it a den of robbers.”
Every day he was teaching in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people kept looking for a way to kill him; but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were spellbound by what they heard.
The crowd has dispersed for now
but still Jesus hogs the limelight
upsetting the temple traders
re-asserting the law
fascinating onlookers.
The religious big wigs
did not appreciate
that he pointed out their failings
and they're already determined
to get him
they are desperate
to put an end
to his unconventional behaviour
that attracts attention
and encourages ordinary people
to act subversively.
Keep a low profile?
He wouldn't know how.
He is on a mission
uncovering injustice
all the way to the cross.
