Matthew 4:18-22
Jesus Calls the First Disciples
As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him. As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him.
Follow me...
Lord, I’m not sure
You know that I love you
But...
Follow me...
Lord, it’s too much
I’m not good enough
Not patient enough
Not loving enough
Follow me...
Lord, it’s too complicated
Folk will judge me
Misunderstand me
Question my motives
Dissect my intentions
Follow me...
Lord, it’s too risky
I’m fine where I am
No need to rock the boat
Follow me...
Lord, we’ve been here before
And I know you won’t let it rest
Your will for me
is not resignation
or even contentment
Your will for me
is life in abundance
You know all that I don’t
And, what’s more,
you go ahead,
preparing the way...
So with eyes squeezed shut,
Fists clenched in determination
and through gritted teeth
With kicking and screaming
and bucket loads of tears
I say Yes.
