Carried in love

 “Woman, here is your son.”

(John 19:26)

Carried in love

in the womb of his mother

cradled in arms that were gentle

nurtured and loved

then released to life

set free to teach and to heal

And now, in the throes of death

filled with compassion

feeling the pain

of the woman who gave him life

the woman who trusted enough

to say Yes! to God’s plan

to say Yes! to a life

of worry and turmoil

the woman who bore

the son of God

and who now shared

the awful pain

of his death

Forgetting his own agony

and reaching out

to ease the pain

of the one

who carried him in love.
