Ne'er cast a cloot

All month folk have been muttering: "ne'er cast a cloot til May is oot". And plummeting temperatures have affirmed the wisdom in that. Today, however, it's warm enough to have breakfast outside - bacon, waffles and maple syrup. Mmm. Later on I have a wedding - what a beautiful day to celebrate. Cloots cast can always be put back on!

  1. I have to ask- I just can't stand it! WHAT is a "cloot?" I figured out the "oot" but I'm puzzled and perplexed by the "cloot" and Google hasn't been much help...

  2. Daughter - We Scots :) A cloot is a cloth or, in this instance, clothing - so you should never take off your extra layers in Scotland until summer is well and truly here - and even then?!

  3. Ah. Thank you! That was causing me much consternation this morning, and added to the reason why I was putting off working on my sermon. Now I believe the excuses are all gone. :-)
