Water from a rock

As I struggled to pull together a sermon last night, one of my revgalpals commented that we were meandering together in the Sinai desert. It was comforting to know that I wasn't alone- another benefit of an online community. The sermon eventually did come together and, as ever, spoke to me as much as to anyone else. Even in the driest of times and maybe especially when our resources seem exhausted, still there is life-giving spirit and depths to be plumbed. Lent allows us to wander through the desert and rediscover the water of life.

  1. It is fascinating to hear that it was a struggle! That sermon spoke to me loud and clear and was so well crafted, I imagined it had flown from your pen like the life giving water!
I wonder how often we don't see the 'other's' struggle and assume that it is so effortless?
Getting water from the rock was the result of Moses obedience and listening to God, just as the sermon being crafted on the computer is the result of listening to the Spirit and so from out of the dryness of Sinai comes the fresh feeding for your community, not just in your Church, but for your online community~today, I feel well fed and well blessed to be part of it! Praise be!

  2. Hi Liz,
I'm a United Church of Christ pastor, working on a devotional for our upcoming gathering for those supporting clergy small groups (called Communities of Practice). I came across your lovely image and wondered if I could use it in my handout? I am happy to give full credit, of course. Thank you for letting me know.

    Godspeed,

    Rev Tara Barber
